  • Purpose Driven Cow Working

Cow working is a profound test of balance that encompasses mental, emotional, and physical dimensions. For years, specific horse breeds have been developed with an enhanced awareness of movement, a quality often referred to as "cow sense." When these horses are given a target to track, their focus and athleticism are significantly heightened.

The concept of "relief" is a fundamental game that can teach all horses this principle, using both moving and stationary targets. Engaging in this game not only sharpens their skills but also enhances their understanding of balance and responsiveness.

If you're seeking a camp to refine your foundational skills and increase focus, sensitivity, athleticism, and motivation in both you and your horse, there is no better opportunity than working cows. Experience a deep bond through horsemanship, stockmanship, and partnership with your horse in a focused environment.

Join us for 4 Days at Tanginup Farm, where our camps are held annually every April (Advance) and October (Introduction). Accommodations include two apartment bedrooms, four glamping tents, and unlimited camping with full facility access. This is an unparalleled opportunity to elevate your horsemanship and strengthen the connection with your horse.

  • Horsemanship Essentials

This clinic is an invaluable opportunity for equestrians to deepen their understanding of equine behavior and enhance their relationship with their horse. By focusing on body language, participants will gain insights into the thoughts and emotions of their equine partners.

Key areas of learning will include:

Fundamental Concepts of Equine Communication: Understanding how horses express themselves through body posture, movement, and facial expressions.

Techniques for Effective Leadership: Developing the ability to lead with confidence and clarity, which is essential for establishing a trustful relationship.

Building Trust and Connection: Fostering an environment where the horse feels secure and respected, thereby promoting a willingness to engage and follow.

Through this clinic, Students will leave with practical skills that can be applied in everyday interactions with their horse, ultimately creating a more harmonious and productive partnership.

  • Horsemanship Fundamentals

In this clinic, we focus intently on fostering a horse's critical thinking and decision-making abilities, which are essential for their overall development and success. Instead of simply directing the horse to perform specific tasks as we might traditionally do, we thoughtfully design scenarios that encourage them to evaluate various situations and respond appropriately to different forms of pressure. This innovative process allows horses to better understand their own capabilities, promoting a much deeper level of engagement and self-awareness. As horses learn to effectively interpret and respond to these pressures, the partnership between horse and rider evolves in meaningful ways, resulting in increased confidence and responsiveness in both participants. The outcome is a more successful and harmonious interaction during both training sessions and riding experiences. This approach not only significantly enhances the skills of the horse but also cultivates a strong relationship founded on trust and mutual respect. Together, this sets a solid foundation for a long-lasting and fruitful journey in the equestrian world, ensuring that both horse and rider can thrive in their endeavors.

  • Starting Refinement.

This clinic is designed to deepen your understanding of the essential aspects of riding while honing your technical skills. Participants will study the horse's responsibilities and the impact of weight distribution on performance. Emphasis will be placed on the vital role that the outside of the horse plays in achieving balance and control during various gaits, turns, transitions, and rein backs.

As riders, you will learn how to effectively teach and reinforce strength in your horses, ensuring they can sustain proper weight placement consistently. Initial exercises will concentrate on utilizing inside cues, which will serve as a foundation for advancing into more sophisticated techniques that require refined communication with the horse, particularly focusing on the outside rein's influence over the inside hind leg.

This clinic offers a comprehensive approach, blending foundational principles with advanced maneuvers. It is tailored to prepare you for success across all disciplines, ensuring you and your horse are well-equipped for high-performance challenges.

  • Advancing Refinement.

The Advancing Refinement course offers a crucial next step for riders who have completed the Starting Refinement program. This course focuses on enhancing the athleticism of the horse through the development of balance and strength.

In our journey towards building a more capable equine athlete, we first reinforce the concepts of diagonal balance and arc balance. When a horse travels straight, it achieves diagonal balance, where its weight shifts from the left hind leg to the right fore leg. Conversely, when the horse moves in a circle, it enters an arc balance, distributing weight predominantly to the outside legs, while the inside hind leg propels the horse forward.

As students, you will learn how to refine your aids, becoming not only more effective riders but also clearer communicators with your horses. We will also delve into the gymnastic scale of training, a systematic approach that underlines the importance of developing a well-rounded athlete.

This clinic is designed to equip you for advanced levels in any equestrian discipline you wish to pursue. The skills you develop here will serve as a foundation for both precision and athleticism in your partnership with the horse. Join us in this pivotal course to elevate your riding and horse's performance.

  • Liberty.

Liberty is a captivating aspect of horsemanship that offers valuable insights into the relationship between horse and rider. One of the foundational elements of this practice is the concept of 'Positional Truth.' This idea emphasizes the importance of understanding and executing the correct angles, hand positions, and foot placements to foster a genuine connection with your horse.

In our exploration of these principles, we will examine the distinctions between a draw hand and a drive hand. A draw hand encourages your horse to come closer, signaling an invitation to engage, while a drive hand applies pressure to motivate the horse away. Recognizing and utilizing these hand positions effectively allows the horse to interpret your intentions more clearly, enhancing communication and trust.

As you teach your horse to seek relief in being with you, you will notice the emergence of deeper bonding, increased obedience, and a sense of exuberance during training sessions. This development is especially evident in the round yard and open spaces, where the horse can express itself freely alongside its human partner and other horses.

By nurturing these elements within your training regimen, you lay the groundwork for a dynamic and harmonious partnership that transcends basic obedience. The journey into liberty work enriches not only the horse's experience but also strengthens the rider's understanding of equine behavior and responsiveness.
